Challenges Before Implementation
The customer was looking for projection and receiver lens units for an anti-collision safety sensor for a small AGV.
They needed design and manufacturing technology using plastic lens units to reduce the size and weight of the product, but lacked the internal resources for in-house design, so they needed a supplier with design expertise who could consider the manufacturability of plastic parts and also provide optical evaluation.

Why TOYOTEC?
Since TOYOTEC has experience in the design, prototyping, assembly, and mass production of plastic lenses and precision molded products, we were asked to optimize the design for manufacturability, build our own evaluation machine to simulate the product environment and verify the evaluation criteria, and the mass production of the products.

Prospects for the Future Based on the Effects and Changes Resulting from the Introduction of the System
We have maintained stable mass production of more than tens of thousands of pieces per year. For more than 10 years, we have contributed to the production realization of optical designs demanded by our customers with our design and development capability based on our rich experience and high production capacity.

Challenges Before Implementation
When capturing images of a large area at a limited distance from an object, the customer had difficulty calibrating the software to correct the distortion of the images captured with a wide-angle lens. With ultra-wide angle lenses such as fisheye lenses, the edges of the image were shrunk, making it difficult to recognize feature points, and correcting distortion in high-resolution images caused delays in the real-time image.

Why TOYOTEC and RDL?
We received an inquiry about RDL through an introduction of VR/AR system development company that was aware of the customer’s challenges and TOYOTEC’s technology. In addition, TOYOTEC is capable not only of designing special lenses such as RDLs, but also of customizing design specifications to meet the customer’s needs.

Prospects for the Future Based on the Effects and Changes Resulting from the Introduction of the System
Although we are still in the introduction study stage, the actual test simulation has reduced the burden of calibration for distortion correction. We have received feedback that this technology will become even more necessary with the introduction of high-resolution cameras in the future.

This is an example of a design proposal of a lens unit used for driver monitoring. The lens unit will be used as a component of a driver monitoring product that is used to prevent drivers from falling asleep at the wheel, which has become a common problem in recent years.

As a result of a defect in the original project, TOYOTEC, which has done business with them in the past, was consulted when looking for another supplier.

Since this project was for in-vehicle use, there was a request to consider cost and temperature drift, so we proposed optical design with multiple patterns such as glass lens only or a combination of resin lens and glass lens. We also adjusted the angle of view and conducted detailed simulations using MTF evaluation, CRA, vignetting ratio, and spot diagrams.

We can of course provide lens unit components, but we can also offer cost reduction and performance improvement proposals if you consult with us from the optical design stage in order to meet your requirements. If you are considering lens unit parts or cost reduction, please consider starting out by contacting TOYOTEC.

This is a wide-angle camera for overhead cranes used in medium-sized factories to transport items that cannot be lifted by humans. It plays a role in detecting objects and surrounding workers.

This customer had been using general market-sold cameras before they approached us, but they were facing the problem of “narrow field of view” and needed to use multiple cameras for each crane. In addition, they were concerned about peripheral distortion when combining the images taken by each camera.
They were interested in our RDL, which can take wide-angle images with less distortion, because it can reduce the number of cameras and reduce the burden on the system during image processing.

>> RDL: Real Distortion-Less lens unit (Wide Angle, Ultra-Low distortion, and High quality)

TOYOTEC has a proven track record of supporting a wide range of projects from the development stage to mass production.
Since TOYOTEC is capable of handling the entire process from optical and mechanical design to component manufacturing and final product evaluation, we are able to produce original design and development products such as this RDL lens.
RDL lens is sold as a standard product and has its own specifications, but customized products based on the RDL lens are also available to meet customers’ needs.
If you are looking for distortion-free wide-angle lenses, please feel free to contact us.

The customer, who had no knowledge of optical units, was looking for a supplier who could provide them with a mechanism design as well as the optical units, and they turned to us. They also wanted to reduce costs by procuring parts in Asia, and the fact that TOYOTEC is present in Asia was one of the reasons for contacting us.

This lens unit uses a bandpass filter that allows only infrared rays to pass through, and designed with a combination of various lenses and mechanical parts. Since we were able to consult with them from the design stage, we were able to provide them with the maximum performance possible to meet their specifications.

This is an ultra-low distortion lens unit for use in automatic forklift cameras. It uses the RDL lens, which was originally developed by our company and can perform real-time processing at a wide-angle range / low distortion.

The customer used to use wide-angle cameras on their forklifts, but they had to correct distortions as needed. However, the more the distortion correction, the further it became from real-time, so they were looking for a product that could acquire undistorted images in real-time.

Cameras for moving objects such as forklifts need to detect obstacles and people in warehouses, and acquiring information from as wide a field of view as possible will improve their performance. However, the wider the angle, more distortion correction needed to make a higher accuracy of analysis. This inevitably results in a slower frame rate (fps), which means that information processing takes longer and lacks real-time capability.

On the other hand, the ultra-low distortion lens unit developed by TOYOTEC is capable of sensing up to a horizontal angle of view of 120 degrees, and our unique optical design technology reduces distortion to less than 2%. This eliminates the need for distortion correction by image processing and enables high fps shooting. Elimination of distortion correction also eliminates the loss of pixels due to image processing, resulting in the acquisition of high-quality images in real-time.

This ultra-low distortion lens unit have been used not only by these customers, but also in a wide range of fields such as agriculture, production, and surveillance cameras, and has been highly appraised by our customers.
