Why TOYOTEC and RDL?
We received an inquiry about RDL through an introduction of VR/AR system development company that was aware of the customer’s challenges and TOYOTEC’s technology. Prospects for the Future Based on the Effects and Changes Resulting from the Introduction of the System
Although we are still in the introduction study stage, the actual test simulation has reduced the burden of calibration for distortion correction. We have received feedback that this technology will become even more necessary with the introduction of high-resolution cameras in the future.

This customer was thinking of using a stereo camera in the green house to form a 3D model to be used for inspection. However, due to the need for distortion correction in image processing, the amount of video information that can be captured by a single camera is limited, and in order to create a highly accurate 3D model, it is necessary to use many cameras. Therefore, we proposed the use of our “wide-angle and ultra-low-distortion lens” RDL lens in a stereo format, which can provide more information than a standard fisheye camera and can shoot a wider area, thus reducing the number of shots.

In response to our proposal, the customer appreciated the fact that the lens itself could handle distortions and that the CPU load on the software side would be reduced.
